Cam Newton Gives Bizarre Presser, Refers To Suh As 'Donkey Kong Suh'

CBS DETROIT - The buildup to this weekend's game between the Detroit Lions and the Carolina Panthers gained a puzzling side story Wednesday, when Carolina quarterback Cam Newton gave an Arian Foster-esque press conference in which he answered all questions with some variation on one line that consistently included an odd reference to Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Does Newton feel healthier having sat out week one due to fractured ribs? Is he glad the team made that decision?

"My main focus is trying to focus on the Detroit Lions," Newton said. "Like I said, I'm not dwelling on the past. We had a great team win and I've got my hands full trying to get protected by Donkey Kong Suh and my fellow Auburn teammate Nick Fairley."

Have the Panthers approached Newton or his representatives about a contract?

"No, sir," Newton replied. "My main focus is the Detroit Lions. I think I've got my hands full trying to stay protected from Donkey Kong Suh and my fellow Auburn teammate Nick Fairley."

Another contract question for Newton elicited the same blandly bizarre response.

"Like I said, my main focus is the Detroit Lions and trying to stay protected," Newton said. "I think I've got my hands full with trying to get protected by Donkey Kong Suh and my fellow teammate Nick Fairley,"

Suh said during his media availability Wednesday that he and Newton have met a few times but are not close. Suh also did a little trash-talking of his own, but he did not target an individual or deliver his message in an incessantly repetitive way.

"On the road, it's fun, being able to go into somebody else's house, make them have a bad day," Suh said, "especially it being a 1 o'clock game, they got to go home and watch the rest of the games, with Sunday night football, Monday night football, with a loss, so I like playing on the road."

Suh laughed giddily after giving that description. One might imagine that visions of sacking Newton danced in his head. If they did not before, maybe they will now.
