Funeral Friday For 93-Year-Old Owner Of Detroit's Historic Roma Café
DETROIT (WWJ) - A funeral is being held Friday for the 93-year-old owner of one of Detroit's oldest restaurants.
Stella Sossi, whose family owns Roma Café in Eastern Market, died Monday at St. John Hospital in Detroit.
Sossi started as a bookkeeper for the restaurant in 1945, and married Roma Café owner Hector Sossi a year later. She served as the office manager at the restaurant until her retirement.
Sossi is survived by her husband of 68 years, her daughter Janet Belcoure, her granddaughter Jessica Belcoure and her sister Concetta Timpa Pop, according to her obituary, as well as many "adopted" family friends.
Visitation for Sossi is scheduled for 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. in Grosse Pointe Woods. A funeral mass is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack in St. Clair Shores.
The family has suggested that memorial donations be directed to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, P. O. Box 650309; Dallas, TX 75265-0309.
