Taser Helps Troopers Bring Down Man Who Fled In Stolen SUV

DETROIT (WWJ) - It took the power of a Taser, but a man is now in custody after allegedly trying to flee from Michigan State Police troopers on Detroit's west side.

The situation unfolded around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday when troopers attempted to stop a silver Chevrolet Trailblazer that ran through a stop sign at Ferguson and Chalfonte streets, near Fenkell Avenue and the Southfield Freeway.

Troopers were pursuing the SUV when it crashed more than eight miles away at Warren Avenue and Avery Street, near I-94 and Trumbull Avenue.

The driver tried to flee from troopers on foot, but was taken into custody with the help of a Taser. His identity has not yet been released. Charges are pending.

Further investigation revealed that the Trailblazer was stolen out of Ferndale in March of 2014.

No injuries were reported.
