10-Year-Old Royal Oak Girl With Leukemia Is A Celebrity For A Day

ROYAL OAK (WWJ/AP) - A metro Detroit girl with leukemia is having her dream of becoming a celebrity come true.

Thanks to the efforts of a Make-A-Wish Michigan, 10-year-old Emily Sobeck who "adores everything to do with being famous" began a celebrity journey Friday that included bodyguards, adoring fans, a trip to the salon and a professional photo shoot in Royal Oak.

And that was just the morning.

Emily was escorted from her Royal Oak elementary school by a phalanx of high school football players to a waiting limousine, which whisked her along her big day. After lunch at her favorite spot, Emily returned to school for a pep assembly at which Royal Oak Mayor Jim Ellison proclaimed the day "Emily Day" in her honor.

Throughout the day, Make-A-Wish encouraged Twitter users to Tweet using the hashtag #celebrityemily, about her adventure, and sightings of her around town.

Later Friday, Emily was headed to Macy's at the Somerset Collection mall to greet fans, sign autographs and shop for a ballgown for Make-A-Wish Michigan's Ball coming up on Nov. 8 at MGM Grand Detroit.
