Judge: 625-Pound Man Can Enter Plea Via Internet

GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- A 625-pound western Michigan man charged with making a false bomb threat will finally get his day in court - via the Internet.

WOOD-TV reports that a Kent County judge ruled Friday that Jeffery Klein can plead guilty from his Grand Rapids home.

Klein has missed court hearings over the past two years and said his large size prevents him from leaving home. The television station reports that Klein says authorities didn't want to the pay the $2,000 cost for an ambulance and assistance needed to get him into court.

Defense lawyer Damian Nunzio has said he's never seen his 44-year-old client walk. He hopes Klein is sentenced to house arrest.

The fake bomb threat was made in 2012 to a Kent County mobile home park.
