GoPro Introduces New Cameras For Thrill Seekers, Unique Persepectives

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - GoPro announced Monday a new line of cameras for thrill seekers, vacationers and families.

The California-based company unveiled three models of the HERO cameras which range from a new entry-level model to more advanced cameras with a variety of settings and options.

"For the past twelve years, our passion has been to make it easy for people to self-capture jaw dropping, professional quality footage of themselves engaged in their favorite activities," said GoPro Founder and CEO, Nicholas Woodman, said in a release.

GoPro cameras have become popular among professionals and amateurs photographers who have used by firefighters, surfers and even wildlife shelters to capture unique point-of-view videos.

The new phones include:

  • The HERO4 Black for $499 which shoots cinema-quality 4K video at 30 frames per second (fps), 2.7K video at 50fps and 1080p video at 120fps, which allows for slow motion effects. Other features include high fidelity sound, low light performance, tagging moments,
  • HERO4 Silver for $399 which captures video at a high resolution - but at a level below that of the Black, but offers a built-in touch display.
  • The Hero, which comes with a suggested retail price of $129, which will shoot video at 1080p at 30fps and 720p at 60fps.

The new HERO cameras will be available Oct. 5 online and retailers.

On the same day the cameras are released, GoPro will be releasing accessories including a smart remote for the Hero4 Black or Silver and a new handgrip.

The company will also be releasing updates at a later date for the desktop editing software and mobile GoPro App.
