Pepsi True: A New Cola Available At A New Venue, Amazon

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Pepsi is releasing its new cola on a new venue: the Internet.

Pepsi True, the new soda sweetened with real sugar and the natural sweetener Stevia leaf extract, will launch in mid-October exclusively on Amazon.

The newest Pepsi Cola has 30 percent less sugar than regular Pepsi and contains no high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners, according to the company.

This is the latest effort by Pepsi to offer lower calorie soft drinks. These efforts have included Sobe Lifewater in 2008, Pepsi NEXT in 2012 and Mountain Dew Kickstart last year.

"Pepsi is helping consumers get back to the fun, refreshing side of cola," the company said in a release.

The new soda, will be packaged in green, 7.5-ounce cans that will be sold in 24 packs on Amazon, USA Today reported, and by utilizing the web retailer, Pepsi can monitor the response of the consumers before rolling it out to stores, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Pepsi joins Coca-Cola in utilizing web-retailer Amazon to sell a specific brand of soft drinks. Coke recently brought back Surge and is selling it exclusively on the website.
