You're Invited: Annual 'Blessing Of The Pets', Sunday In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Dozens of pet owners from across the state are expected to turn out Sunday for the annual "Blessing of the Pets" at Historic Trinity Lutheran Church on Gratiot in downtown Detroit.

Pastor Dr. David Eberhard explained the blessing process, which will include some help from a famous fuzzy face.

"The go in a staging area in a tent outside, and during each of the three services then they come to the back of the church and somebody announces them," said Eberhard. "They come down the center aisle, and then Paws — you know, the mascot for the Detroit Tigers — is going to be here also... and then Paws and I bless the pets, and give them a St.  Francis medallion."

Pastor Eberhard says over the years he's blessed all kinds of pets —  including a cow.

The blessings will take place at the  8:15, 9:30, and 11 a.m worship services at Trinity Lutheran Church located at 1345 Gratiot, only on Sunday, Oct. 5.

The public is invited to attend, but pre-registration is required.  Those who wish to have a pet blessed can register online at www.historictrinityinc.org, by email to histtrin@aol.com, or by phone, at 313-567-3100 or 800-268-3058.
