Caldwell Says He Will Strongly Consider Sitting Calvin Johnson

ALLEN PARK (CBS DETROIT) - Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford threw to wide receiver Calvin Johnson just once Sunday, and on that play Johnson took a hit, left the game and never returned.

Johnson had been questionable before the game with an ankle injury that kept him out of practice Wednesday and Thursday and limited him in practice Friday. The Lions also used Johnson sparingly the previous week, when Stafford targeted Johnson just twice.

In each of Detroit's first three games, Johnson had at least 10 passes thrown his way.

Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said last week that shutting Johnson down for a week to help him heal is always a possibility. He reiterated that stance Monday rather than directly answering a question on whether he was more inclined to sit Johnson now - following the injury during Sunday's game - than he was before.

"I thought about it last week, just looking at him," Caldwell said. "I'm going to think about it again this week, strongly, so we'll see."

Johnson had 19 catches for 329 yards in Detroit's first three games. In the last two weeks, he has caught just three passes for 19 yards.
