Retirement Home Evacuated Due To Likely Kitchen Fire

ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) -- A fire broke out in one unit at the Walton Woods Retirement Community in Rochester Hills on Monday night.

The fire department received a call around 7:18 p.m. Monday evening about a fire at the facility on Walton Blvd. near Adams Rd.

Sgt. Dale Brown of the Oakland County Sheriff's Department said that one unit was damaged, possibly buy a kitchen fire. About a dozen other units had smoke and water damage.

The fire was on the second floor of the complex. Residents from about 12 other units were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Brown said the official investigation is still ongoing and that there were no injuries reported.
