Grosse Pointe Woods Police Make Arrests In Home Invasion Case

GROSSE POINTE WOODS (CBS Detroit) - A task force of east side police agencies may have made a break in a series of home invasions in Grosse Pointe Woods.

After police received a report Monday of a home invasion, and receiving a witness description of two male suspects and two separate vehicles, the Home Invasion Task Force were dispatched to an area of Detroit where suspects are known to "frequent and drop off property taken in home invasions," according to a release.

The vehicles described by the witness were seen arriving at the location by officers and the suspects were observed removing property from the vehicles and into the home, according to police.

Police called in additional officers and the suspects were taken into custody with their vehicle being impounded. After police received a search warrant, and entered the home, four additional suspects were taken into custody at the location.

Investigators retrieved stolen property including electronics, jewelry and two additional vehicles one of which was reported to be stolen, according to a release on Nixle.com.

"I would like to thank our residents for their observations and information and our own investigators, officers and dispatchers for their dedication in the investigation of these cases." said Al Fincham, city administrator and director of public safety, in a release. "They have all worked together to make our communities safe."

Fincham added that detectives are currently working on obtaining warrants charging six suspects with a range of criminal offenses including home invasion and possession of stolen property which includes the stolen vehicle.

Police agencies in the Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods have been actively investigation a rash of home invasions in recent months. These break-ins and thefts included a Yorkshire Terrier that was taken in one robbery. The dog was later returned according to a story in the Detroit News.
