Matt Prater will be the third Lions kicker of the season when he starts in Minnesota on Sunday. The place kicking has been nothing short of horrendous through five games.

According to Click On Detroit, former Lions kicker Jason Hanson recently reached out to the team and offered to come out of retirement to kick for them. The report says the Lions declined Hanson's assistance and turned him down, allegedly based on fear of injury.

Lions General Manager Martin Mayhew refused to comment about this on Thursday.

Nate Freese and Alex Henery combined to make just 4 of 12 field goals this season, and went just 1-for-9 from 40 yards or more.

Hanson kicked for 21 seasons in Detroit and provided remarkable consistency. His 495 field goals are the third-most in NFL history.

Over the course of the past few weeks, I've heard many, many fans call for Jason Hanson to come in and save the day. These hopes are now officially put to rest, and everyone is anxiously waiting to see how the Lions kicking goes under Matt Prater.

Would you have wanted Jason Hanson to return, or are you satisfied with the new guy, Matt Prater?
