Officials: Tax Payments Current At Joe Louis Arena

DETROIT (AP) - Officials say the company that leases Joe Louis Arena for Detroit Red Wings games is up to date on paying property taxes at the arena.

Olympia Entertainment paid its bill on time this summer and paid half of a $5.2 million settlement with the city related to cable TV revenues reports the Detroit Free Press.  The update comes in a report to Detroit City Council.

The company is expected to make other payments later. The city has said timely tax collection has been a past issue.

Olympia Entertainment and the Red Wings are part of Mike Ilitch's stable of companies. Officials last month held a groundbreaking for a new 18,000-seat hockey arena and 45-block entertainment complex in Detroit. Ilitch has said the new hockey arena will open in 2017.
