According to a report from ESPN, Lions coach Jim Caldwell may be prepared to bench star wide receiver Calvin Johnson until Week 10 with a nagging ankle injury, meaning he would miss games against New Orleans and Atlanta heading into the team's Bye Week.

Caldwell did not specifically say that he would keep Megatron out for a prolonged period, but when asked about sitting him, he did not refute letting the Lions' doctors and training staff keep Johnson off the field.

"I do not hold a medical degree. It may appear I do from time to time to you, maybe, but I don't," Caldwell said. "The fact of the matter is I leave it up to the doctors. Those are the professionals. They know exactly what it takes.

"Them in conjunction with Calvin and how he feels, they treat not only symptoms of the situation but also the patient as well, in terms of how he feels. So they'll let us know what's the best path to take."

Johnson has been struggling with an ankle injury for most of the season, which held him to abbreviated playing time against the Jets and Bills, while he missed Sunday's game in Minnesota.
