Boyfriend Charged In 22-Year-Old Warren Woman's Kidnapping, Murder

WARREN (WWJ) - The boyfriend of a 22-year-old Warren woman whose body was discovered last month stuffed inside a storage drum has been charged in her murder.

Scott Wobbe, 37, was arraigned Tuesday morning in Warren District Court on three counts — murder in the first degree, kidnapping and disinterment of a body — and ordered held without bond.

"He asked the judge to allow him bond; the judge said no way," reported WWJ's Charlie Langton. "He's got a lengthy criminal record, and the judge made note that he led police on a 90-day trace trying to cover up the murder."

Three months after she went missing, Theresa DeKeyzer's decomposed body was discovered in September, entombed in cement inside of a 55-gallon drum that was apparently bolted to the floor of a small utility trailer at Travel Trailer Storage Facility, on Ann Arbor Road in Plymouth Township.

It took medical examiners more than four hours to free DeKeyzer's remains from the drum, being careful to not damage any of the evidence. Spokesperson Mary Mazur said obvious measures were utilized to cover up evidence in the woman's death.

DeKeyzer's aunt, Kathi Olechowski, said the charges against Wobbe did not come as a surprise to the family.

"We knew the suspect who should've been looked at right away, and it took the police awhile to listen to us; but it looks like he's finally gonna get his due, and we're ecstatic about it," Olechowski said.

"Why she went back to him we'll never understand, but, I mean, who else were they gonna look at? I mean, honestly...he's nothing but trouble, that guy."

After the her body was found, Green told WWJ the "discovery is linked to the suspect in the case," referring to Wobbe, who had previously been taken into custody on drug charges.

The day before DeKeyzer went missing, June 16 , she was apparently involved in a physical altercation with Wobbe, whose criminal history includes assault convictions. When DeKeyzer refused to get out of his car, he reportedly dragged her out by her shirt. She started hitting him with her fists, and he allegedly punched her in the face. The fight ended when neighbors intervened and Wobbe, who was reportedly drunk, fled the scene.

DeKeyzer was checked out by police at the scene around 8 p.m., and said she would file a complaint in the morning.

Police say the last call from DeKeyzer's phone to Wobbe's phone was placed at 10:23 p.m.

At some point during the night, DeKeyzer apparently walked to a gas station for cigarettes. Wobbe told police he picked DeKeyzer up from the gas station and they went back to his house and made up, the Detroit News reported. The next day, around 6 a.m., Wobbe claimed he dropped DeKeyzer off about four blocks from her home near 9 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.

Authorities said the last phone call DeKeyzer made was at 8:27 a.m. June 16 from the area of 8 Mile Road and Groesbeck Highway, along the Warren-Detroit border.

"Every time I think of her I just want to cry," Olechowski said. "She was just so full of life; she was the type of person that would try anything herself, because she just wanted to know for herself, but she just wanted to life live life to the fullest."

Wobbe faces life in prison if convicted on the murder charge. He'll be back in court for a preliminary exam on Oct. 28.
