Slows Bar BQ Expanding To Grand Rapids

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Slows Bar BQ announced Tuesday that is expanding beyond its Detroit roots and will be opening in Grand Rapids.

The popular restaurant which was founded in Corktown will be opening its first location outside of the city at the Downtown Market in downtown Grand Rapids.

Slows' full-service restaurant - which is scheduled to open in Spring 2015 -  will feature a similar menu to the Detroit location, including brisket, ribs, pulled pork, smoked turkey, jambalaya along with several dozen Michigan-based artisan and craft beers on tap.

"Slows is a notable success in downtown Detroit. Its upcycled atmosphere, delicious menu, commitments to their communities and their craft make them an ideal addition to the Downtown Market," said Mimi Fritz, president and CEO of the Downtown Market, in a release. "Unlike any other place, the Market offers us the chance to know our food and the people who make it. We are thrilled to introduce Slows and their authentic take on barbeque to West Michigan."

Slows opened in 2005 and has been recognized in local and national media outlets for its menu and revitalizing the neighborhood. In the new Grand Rapids location, Slows offer a restaurant space, catering and its Slows-To-Go service, which includes catering.

In addition to being the first Slows restaurant outside of Detroit, this will be the first restaurant in the Downtown Market, which is a mixed-use facility offers a seasonal farmer's market, vendor hall and incubator kitchens

"The Downtown Market is just the type of community-centered, neighborhood location that fits who we are," said Brian Perrone, executive chef and co-founder of Slows in a release. "We are completely devoted to barbecue — studying it, making it and teaching customers about the process. We are excited to join such a great group of artisans to create a friendly, welcoming, accessible and open environment."
