Behind The Mic: Oakland County Woman's Voice Will Likely Ring A Bell

DETROIT (WWJ) - There's no doubt you've heard Rebecca King's voice before.

"I'm on ABC Warehouse: 'the closest thing to wholesale', and I'm on Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers as well as Medical Weight Loss Clinic."

The single mother of a 12-year-old daughter, King says she got her start more than 20 years ago as an auto show model. On the job, she got a lot of compliments on her voice.

"We would be public speakers on the microphone, and I would be queen of ad-lib," King told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeil. "My peers would just tell me that I had a great speaking voice."

So she got some help from a voice coach to break into the biz.

What was the toughest part to learn?

"You know, probably accents," King said. "I don't do a lot of accents, but I do do a southern accent once in a while," ... And there was that one time she got a call late at night to voice an ad for a club in Thailand.

King said she works mostly out of her studio in her bedroom at her Beverly Hills, Michigan home.

She has two other jobs as an interior designer and a seller of probiotic water; but, she said, with voice work she's in it for the long haul because she'll never age out.

They're the voices behind the microphone. and all this week we're highlighting those who make their living voicing the spots you hear everyday. Tune to WWJ all week to hear their stories, and READ MORE HERE.
