Woman Killed In Fatal House Fire On Detroit's East Side
DETROIT (WWJ) -- An early morning house fire left one woman dead on Detroit's east side on Saturday.
Firefighters responded Saturday morning to house on St. Louis near Seven Mile Rd. and Mt. Elliott where 53-year-old Rita Walker was found in her bedroom.
Detroit Fire Capt. Patrick McNulty said that a mail carrier alerted a neighbor after seeing smoke coming from the house. The Wayne County medical examiner's office will work to determine exactly how Walker died.
Walker's mother, Ola, said that her daughter worked for nearly 18 years as a bus driver for the city.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
