Calvin Johnson To Be Honored With 'Ed Block Courage Award' For Sportsmanship

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has received multiple awards over his career, but none may be bigger than what he will receive on Tuesday night.

Whether you call him Calvin Johnson -- or his other alias Megatron -- it's no secret that he is one of, if not the greatest receiver to ever play the game.

Part of the reason for that is because of his calm demeanor on and off the field, and because of that he will be honored at the at the "Detroit Lions Courage House Dinner" with the Ed Block Courage Award, which is given annually to a Lions player who exemplifies sportsmanship and has overcome injury or adversity to excel on the field.

The event will take place on October 28 at Ford Field with Lions head coach Jim Caldwell being the keynote speaker. Previous winners include Charlie Batch, Mike Utley and Jason Hanson.

Proceeds for the event will also go to benefit HAVEN, which is Oakland County's premier center for prevention and treatment of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
