Alan Trammell Returns As Special Assistant To Tigers

CBS DETROIT - Legendary Detroit Tigers shortstop Alan Trammell, a six-time All-Star and MVP of the last World Series the Tigers won, has rejoined the team as a special assistant to general manager Dave Dombrowski, the Tigers announced Monday.
Trammell has stayed involved in the game since his playing days ended, most recently as the bench coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who fired him in September after four years on the job. Prior to that, Trammell served as the bench coach for the Chicago Cubs.
Trammell managed the Tigers from 2003 to 2005, a forgettable span in which Detroit compiled a record of 186-300. Before that, Trammell had worked as the hitting coach for the Tigers and as the first base coach for the San Diego Padres.
Trammell spent his entire career with Tigers, from 1977 to 1996, and won four Gold Gloves and three Silver Sluggers. He recorded a lifetime batting average of .285 and an on-base percentage of .352.
