Detroit-Area US Rep. Sander Levin Wins 17th Term
DETROIT (AP) - U.S. Rep. Sander Levin has been re-elected to Congress from suburban Detroit.
The 83-year-old Democrat won his 17th term Tuesday, easily defeating Republican business owner George Brikho and two other candidates.
For the first time since 1982, Levin will be the only member of his family in Congress. His brother, U.S. Sen. Carl Levin, didn't seek re-election.
Levin's 9th District is in Macomb and Oakland counties. Better known as "Sandy," Levin is the highest-ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees tax law, Social Security and Medicare.
Brikho criticized Levin's liberalism but raised little money and didn't mount much of a challenge.
