Detroit Gas Station Clerk Died From Gunshot Blast To Back Of Head

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a 26-year-old gas station clerk who was gunned down on Detroit's east side was killed by a blast to the head.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's office said the man, identified by family members as Mohamed Zokari, died of a single gunshot wound to the back of his head.

Zokari was found dead around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday by a customer inside the Clark gas station on 7 Mile Road and Schoenherr.

Police are still looking for the gunman, who is believed to have been inside the gas station from 6 to 7 a.m., along with the victim.

Detroit Police Deputy Chief Renee Hall said robbery doesn't appear to be a motive because the gunman left all the cash and merchandise behind. Investigators found at least two different spent bullet casings at the scene.

Hall said it doesn't appear Zokari was killed by "someone just randomly seeking crime," although she stopped short of saying he was targeted.

Police have released a security image of a person of interest, who might have information on the shooting, and are hoping the public can help identify the man.
