Latest DROID, Samsung, HTC And Nokia Roll Out New Smart Phones Before The Holidays

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Smart phone companies are introducing a variety of new smart phones in time for holiday photos and sharing gift updates.

Verizon Wireless is the exclusive carrier of the new DROID Turbo by Motorola, which has a 21-megapixel camera with 4K video capture and features a 5.2-inch Quad HD display. It also has a Quick Capture feature which allows users to twist their wrist twice to launch the camera – avoiding the need to press any button or unlock any screens.

The DROID Turbo is also designed to be stronger than other phones with its Ballistic Nylon or Metalized Glass Fiber reinforced with DuPont Kevlar  fiber, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and water-repellent nanocoating protecting the inside and out against spills, according to Verizon.

It also has a battery that lasts up to 48 hours, and has a turbo charging feature that provided up to 8 hours of use from a 15 minute charge. The DROID also offers a feature where the phone wakes up when users reach for the phone, and with a simple wave of a hand over the screen, a phone call can be dismissed or an alarm can be silenced.

As the new DROID phone rolled out for Verizon, AT&T will be offering the HTC Desire EYE  for purchase beginning Nov. 7 online and in AT&T retail stores.

"Optimized for taking selfies, HTC Desire EYE is AT&T's first smart phone with a 13MP front-facing camera and a dual LED flash," said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president – Device Marketing and Developer Services, AT&T, said in a release. "Both HTC Desire EYE and RE have many great features that allow you to capture your moments – all on the nation's most reliable 4G LTE network,6 covering more than 300 million Americans."

Additional product announcements from AT&T include:

  • AT&T and Kyocera will begin the online sale Nov. 7 of the DuraForce rugged, waterproof android smartphone. Nov. 21 in stores.
