Hoke On If Brandon Should Have Had Smaller Role: 'That's Not For Me To Judge'

CBS DETROIT - Michigan head coach Brady Hoke took a neutral stance Thursday on the question of whether former athletic director Dave Brandon should have stayed behind the scenes more during his tenure with the Wolverines.

Brandon was known to sit in on the football team's film sessions - a practice that reportedly aggravated former Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez - and during the NCAA tournament last season he was caught on camera in the coaches' room at halftime of a game.

Hoke would not say whether he believed Brandon made a mistake by positioning himself an unusually high-profile athletic director.

"I don't know," Hoke told Stoney, Bill and Sara of 97.1 The Ticket. "That's not for me to judge, and I'm being honest with you. I think we all do things, and we have a way of doing things. Obviously everything gets overanalyzed and criticized, but I'll be honest with you, that's not for me to judge. Heck, I've got my own world that we kind of live in."

On the whole, Hoke talked positively about Brandon and said the athletic director's resignation has not been a distraction to the team.

"Winning helps, and look, I have a great relationship with Dave," Hoke said. "Dave is a former player here, wanted nothing but the best for Michigan, and he did an awful lot of good things. The [only] focus for us was obviously on Indiana and Northwestern. That's one thing about coaching - you stay focused on your team because you don't want them to ever get distracted, so how can you?"
