Get Ready Metro Detroit: Forecasters Say It Will Snow Thursday, 1-3 Inches This Weekend

DETROIT (WWJ) - The winter blues are here, baby.

The cold, snowy weather has arrived in metro Detroit more than a month before the first official day of winter, Dec. 21.

Forecasters say residents will see scattered snow showers across the area on Thursday. The snow could pick up overnight, but there will be little to no accumulation with less than an inch expected to fall.

CBS 62 Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus said it's also going to feel "freezing" outside.

"We're looking at temperatures well below normal today, with 20s out there this morning and we'll only jump into the mid to upper 30s later on today," he said. "Normally, we should be in the 50s this time of year."

Add wind gusts of 15 to 20 MPH and it's going actually going to feel a few degrees colder Thursday, Madaus said, more like the mid 20s.

Thing could get extra snowy this weekend, with an estimated 1-3 inches expected to fall late Saturday night through Sunday afternoon.

At least we don't have it nearly as bad as those "Up North." Parts of the Upper Peninsula were buried in more than 3 feet of snow on Wednesday, with more snow forecast through the weekend, along with temperatures in the 20s and 30s.
