Police Seek Tips In Death Of Man Found Shot On Side Of The Road

DEARBORN (WWJ) - Dearborn police are turning to the public for help to find whomever shot and killed a 23-year-old man overnight... leaving him alongside the road to die.

The victim, identified as Rolex Dior Johnson of Oak Park, was discovered by a passerby.

"We got a call about two o'clock in the morning; a motorist came by, saw something in the road, slowed down," said Dearborn Police Lt. Doug Topolski. "It turned out to be Mr. Rolex Johnson. He got up...asked the motorist for help, and the motorist called police."

Topolski said Johnson, who was shot once in the face and once in the chest, was rushed to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

"We weren't able to communicate with him real well. I mean, he'd been shot twice and we don't know how long he'd been laying in the roadway," said Topolski.

Police say they don't believe this was a random act.

"Crimes of this magnitude are extremely rare in the City of Dearborn and the loss of life in this incident is profoundly tragic," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronnald Hadad in a statement."Our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Johnson and we are committed to utilizing every resource at our disposal to bring the person(s) responsible to justice."

Police discovered Johnson had been at a nearby bar and was given a ride by someone before he was found shot.

An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Dearborn police at 313-943-2241.
