Two Men Killed In Crash On Gratiot Avenue

CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) -  Police say an early morning crash in Macomb County has claimed the lives of two men.

The accident happened around 2:45 a.m. Saturday on Gratiot Avenue near Hall Road, just west of I-94 in Clinton Township.

According to police, a 2003 Dodge Stratus was traveling northbound on Gratiot when the driver apparently disregarded a red light and crashed into a Chevy Avalanche that was traveling westbound on Hall Road. Both drivers were declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge was identified as a 24-year-old Macomb Township man. The other driver is a 45-year-old St. Clair Shores man. Their names have not yet been released, pending notification of family members.

Police say the accident remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has any information is urged to contact police at 586-493-7894.

Gratiot Avenue was closed for about eight hours as police investigated, but has since reopened.
