'Text Me Merry Christmas' - A Modern Day Christmas Carol From Michigan's Own Kristen Bell

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - A Michigan native who has become a star in Hollywood may have just recorded a Christmas carol for the modern generation.

Kristen Bell, who is from Huntington Woods, joined with Straight No Chaser to record the song "Text Me Merry Christmas."

The song touches upon a common theme for the holidays - being apart. But instead of dreaming of being home for Christmas, the lyrics take a modern twist.

"So please remember this December, To fully charge your phone, and Text me Merry Christmas, Let me know you care."

"We wanted a Christmas song that spoke to how informal communication has become," SNC's Randy Stine told RyanSeacrest.com, where the song premiered Monday, according to a story on CBSNews.com.

The song also stresses how personal texting is over other forms of communication.

"A Facebook message isn't quite as sweet, I need more from @you than just a tweet, A snap on Snapchat doesn't last, And Voicemail, that's from Christmas past."

The song actually features two Michigan natives. Sargon David Isho, who is known as "Seggie," from Straight No Chaser is from Rochester Hills.

"Text Me Merry Christmas" is available on iTunes, and on YouTube.
