Michigan Boy Recognized On 'Steve Harvey' Show For Community Work
A 12-year-old from New Haven got the national spotlight receiving honors on the "Steve Harvey" show. He was one of three young people recognized for helping others in different ways. The segment is part of a series where Harvey features outstanding individuals calling them "Harvey's Heroes".
Robby Eimers started the Eimers Foundation four years ago. Each Saturday, he goes to Detroit's Neighborhood Services Organization with his nine-year-old sister Emma to hand out clothes, water and food to the homeless.
That experience affected Eimers immediately and he felt compelled to do more. "I knew that there were homeless people, but I didn't know that there was that many. You would see one or two if you were just driving, but to see that much it really had an impact," he said.
Eimers began using his own Christmas and birthday money to buy the supplies, but now accepts donations. He appeared on the "Steve Harvey" show on November 19, 2014.
"Steve Harvey" airs weekdays on CBS 62 in Detroit at 3 p.m.
