Son Calls Dad To Confess After Allegedly Stabbing Mom To Death

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating after a 53-year-old woman was stabbed to death on the city's east side, apparently at the hands of her son.

The incident happened early Thursday morning at a home on Algonac and Sturgis streets, in a neighborhood near 7 Mile Road and Hoover Street.

The woman was found on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds, although it wasn't immediately clear what led to the stabbing.

Police Captain Rodney Cox said the 24-year-old son called his father to confess shortly after the crime. The father then called police.

"The son was possibly on medication for an illness, and he may not have been taking his medication which could have contributed to his actions," Cox told WWJ's Mike Campbell.

The son is currently in police custody.

"I can tell you that it's a gruesome scene but I really don't want to release the details of the injuries at this time," Cox said. "But what I can tell you is that she was fatally stabbed."

Names of those involved have not yet been released. Neighbors tell WWJ the woman worked as a nurse at Henry Ford Hospital, and recently complained about having troubles with her son.

"We are interviewing some of the neighbors to try to get some information, try to find out exactly what happened and what may have contributed to this or led to this," Cox said.

Police have been called to the home in the past, Cox said, although he wasn't sure why.

An investigation is ongoing.

This is the second incident this week that a woman in Detroit has allegedly been killed by her son.

On Tuesday, a 24-year-old man allegedly strangled his 57-year-old stepmother to death, wrapped her body in a blanket and left her in the basement of her east side home. He was arrested shortly after the body was discovered.
