After Days Of Shopping, 'Giving Tuesday' Becomes Opportunity To Give Back

DETROIT (WWJ) - You've heard of Cyber Monday but did you know that it's followed by a new initiative called Giving Tuesday?

It's a global day dedicated to giving back.

The generous initiative is focused on being conscious of giving back to your community, or simply giving of your time, talent or treasure to charity.

"We thought ... let's take the Thanksgiving shopping time and the Cyber Monday time and say, let's do a Giving Tuesday," said Bassie Shemtov director of The Friendship Circle.

"The community has gathered already, so excited around this project, we felt like if we could welcome ... the community at large, who have seen the purple stickers, who have someone in their life that has special needs and get's it - realizes the beauty of special needs - they could be part of this."

The Friendship Circle is using this opportunity to raise awareness about their Faber Soul Center, a fine arts studio and learning center that will extend programming and employment to special needs adults ages 18-26.

"Right now we are pushing to finish our $200,000 budget to furnish and equip the whole studio - so that's what we are focusing on right now for our end of the year campaign," said Shemtov. "Of course, beyond we have a $4.2 millon campaign and we are just $500,000 dollars short of that."
