Michigan Players React To Firing Of Brady Hoke

CBS DETROIT - Michigan football players left Schembechler Hall with long faces Tuesday afternoon, exiting the building after what appeared to be a relatively brief meeting with head coach Brady Hoke, who was fired earlier in the day.

A Michigan spokesperson said players were free to talk with media but that none had expressed interest in doing so. Security kept reporters from pursuing players for comment, and several declined requests to talk about their former coach.

However, some players took to Twitter to express their feelings about the dismissal of Hoke.

Several players, including senior wide receiver Drew Dileo, tweeted but linked to Instagram so they had more space to write about Hoke.

"Sad news for Coach Hoke, his family and the Michigan football staff," Dileo wrote. "What an incredible man. He stood tall throughout all the criticism and adversity showing his high character. Coach Hoke is an extremely special man with a gift and love for making a positive impact on young men's lives. I love the man and will always fully support him because of the type of person he is no matter where he ends up next. Could not have asked for a better head coach during my time at Michigan."

Hoke had coached four seasons at Michigan, but the team's record steadily declined over his tenure. This season the Wolverines went 5-7 and lost badly to rivals Michigan State and Ohio State.
