Suh's Analysis Of His Play This Season: 'I Have To Get Better, Simple As That'

ALLEN PARK (CBS DETROIT) - Everyone in football acknowledges Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh changes games. Already a perennial All-Pro, he has played at a high level again this season. Asked to offer an assessment of his play through 12 games, however, Suh seemed only mildly pleased at best.

"I have lot of progress ahead of me," Suh said Wednesday. "I have to get better, simple as that. I have to continue to play at a higher level and kind of go from there."

Suh only smiled when asked how good he can be.

"The sky's the limit," Suh said. "The universe is the limit. Still at this point, I think I've got a lot of growth. I'm definitely - I wouldn't say happy; I like some things that I've done in the past and things that I've done over the 12 games, but if I could go back through, there's definitely holes that I could pick up on and fill those in and play better."

Suh's modest evaluation did not surprise Lions safety Glover Quin one bit.

"A great player never looks at himself or the film and says, 'Man, I'm a great player,'" Quin said. "A great player looks at the film and says - they don't even really critique the play that they made. If they critique the play that they made, they look at how I could have made it even better, and so when you look at the film, you're sitting there saying, 'Man, I could do this. If I just did this, I could do that,' or, 'Man, I can do this.'

"If you're at a point where you're saying you can't get any better," Quin added. "Hopefully you're getting ready to retire."

Quin's comment about Suh's ceiling sounded almost exactly like the one given by Suh himself.

"I think he can be as good as he wants to be," Quin said. "If he wants to be the greatest d-tackle to ever play the game, I think he has that ability. If he wants to be just a good, solid player for a long time and have a great career, he could do that as well. I think, really, he has the ability to be as great as he wants to be."
