Tips Sought In Robbery Of Detroit's First 7-11 Store (VIDEO)
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say it only took a man only 24 seconds to rob Detroit's first 7-11 store.
It happened at around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday at the convenience store on East Jefferson at Chene — the city's first 7-11, which opened to some fanfare last February. (A second Detroit 7-11 opened over the summer in Cadillac Square).
Detroit Police Spokesman Adam Madera said the suspect walked into the store, approached the 55-year-old clerk and announced a holdup, showing what appeared to be the butt of a gun in his pocket.
The female clerk quickly emptied two cash registers and handed over the money, Madera said. No one was hurt.
The owner, who told WWJ's Vickie Thomas this was the first robbery at this store, said the suspect made off with around $70.
The suspect, seen in a security video, was wearing a blue hooded jacket with a red and white logo on the sleeve, green khaki style pants and shiny black dress shoes.
Anyone with information about this crime or who recognizes the suspect in the video is urged to call Detroit police.
