94-Year-Old Michigan Man Faces Hearing In Boy Scouts Camp Sexual Assaults
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Wyoming authorities are asking Michigan to extradite a 94-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting three children during Boy Scouts camps dating back to the 1960s.
William Bricker, who was also a teacher in Illinois, now lives in northern Michigan's Traverse City, where he's scheduled for an extradition hearing on Thursday.
Three former campers told investigators in Teton County they were assaulted at the Teton Valley Ranch Camp. Court documents show Bricker was a counselor at the camp when it was in Kelly, Wyoming.
Investigators received information in February that included a Boy Scout letter and several pages of notes indicating "allegations with multiple victims of sexual assault and immoral and indecent acts with children in the late 1960s or early 1970s," according to an affidavit filed last month in Teton County Circuit Court.
At some point, two of the former campers were contacted as adults by the Boy Scouts to see if they were interested in getting involved with the organization. Both declined. One former scout told the organization he had been molested by his scoutmaster in 1962 when he was 13. He said he told a scout leader in the late 1960s about the incidents but never heard that anything had been done.
The other former scout told police he was sexually assaulted at least six times during the summer of 1985. A third told investigators she was about 14 years old when she was kissed and fondled during an overnight camping trip in Grand Teton National Park.
Bricker was in a Traverse City rehabilitation center when he was arrested on the Wyoming charges, according to television station WPBN-WTOM.
He was later arraigned as a fugitive of justice, the television station reported.
Calls for comment from attorneys representing Bricker were not immediately returned.
