FBI Announces Hotline For Information Pertaining To Back Surgeon Charged With Fraud

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) -- The FBI has started a hotline for anyone with information or concerns regarding Dr. Aria Sabit of Michigan Brain and Spine Physicians Group, who was charged in a criminal complaint and arrested for his role in a health care fraud scheme for improperly performing lumbar spinal fusions.

Any patient who wishes to report concerns or information regarding medical services received from Sabit, or to request a copy of medical records, is encouraged to contact the FBI Detroit Field Office Hotline at 313-965-4500.

The government says Dr. Aria Sabit of Bloomfield Hills told patients he was performing spinal fusion. But when patients subsequently sought help from other doctors, they learned that no devices were implanted.

Sabit was licensed in Michigan in 2011. He surrendered his California license after misconduct allegations. Sabit, 40, has been in custody since Nov. 24.

The criminal complaint against Sabit describes allegations of malpractice involving five patients, but the FBI believes there are many more who learned their back surgery wasn't the procedure promised by the doctor.
