Guide: Holiday Happenings Fill Metro Detroit On Saturday

DETROIT (WWJ) -- There are plenty of activities to get you in the holiday spirit all throughout Metro Detroit on Saturday.

Showcase D' Holidays with music and food will be held in Campus Martius Park in Downtown Detroit from 4 p.m. until midnight in Detroit on Saturday night. Any donations benefit charities including THAW.

Pontiac Holiday Extravaganza Parade and Winter Fun Festival

Winter Fun Festival from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m and Parade at 11 a.m.
The WinterFUN Festival is a great opportunity for families to come together to participate in several activities. There is a Gallery of Ice with live ice carving competition, a petting farm with adorable animals, live Santa reindeer, s'mores and much, much more.

There is also a children's WinterART Center that allows kids to participate in several different craft projects, get their face painted and much, much more. All activities at the Holiday Extravaganza are free. Parade starts at 11 a.m. at 196 Cesar E. Chavez Ave, Pontiac, MI.

Berkley Holiday Events

  • From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. there will be activities, discounts, treats and chances to win prizes with any purchase at participating businesses.
  • Free Vintage Trolley Rides from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Michigan Caroling Company (under 12 Mile Marquee) 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Free kids crafts at Articipate, J's Bar and Grill and Peggendot 1‐5 p.m.
  • Free kids games and prizes at Balanced Health and Wellness 1:30‐ 4 p.m.
  • Free puppet show Berkley Public Library 3 p.m.
  • Grab a selfie with the Olaf and Sven cutout (on 12 Mile west of Bacon)
  • Meet Ice Princess Pamela and get magic ice on Coolidge
  • Children's gift give‐away at Alco Glass and Mirror. Look for the red balloons at the shops offering activities.
  • Petting Zoo 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (at Tyler and 12 Mile Rd., sponsored by Northern Auto Repairs)
  • Holiday Lights Parade – 5:30 p.m. followed by tree lighting ceremony, visit with Santa and carriage rides.

Farmington Light Up The Grand Holiday Lighted Parade

The parade will march across Grand River Ave. beginning at Warner St. and ending at Liberty St., right through the heart of Downtown Farmington. Parade floats or walkers must incorporate lights into their entries. Battery operated lights and glow sticks are highly encouraged.

Downtown Farmington Holly Days

Holly Days will kick off the celebration with the Farmington Winter Market at the American Legion operating 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids will enjoy a visit from Santa at Farmington's "North Pole" from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and free holiday movies at the historic Farmington Civic Theater.

Farmington Holiday Open House

The Governor Warner Mansion (33805 Grand River Avenue) will be decorated for the holidays and open for visits from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tree lighting is at dusk on Saturday.

Ferndale Holiday Show Place Arts and Crafts Show

Kulick Community Center (1201 Livernois, Ferndale, Michigan 48220)from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $1 per person at the door. Food and concessions will be available.

Lake Orion Lighted Parade

Starts at 6 p.m. The parade boasts over 75 entries each year, from civic organizations, dance studios, scouting troops, local dignitaries, marching bands, school groups and more. The event is capped off with a special visit by Santa himself, much to the joy of the young and old in the crowd lining the village streets.

Chelsea Hometown Holiday Light Parade

Downtown and South Town areas, Chelsea 6 p.m. step off
This annual parade dazzles with dozens of lighted floats and vehicles, marching bands and even Santa. Kicks of at 6 p.m. from Chelsea State Bank's south-end lot and ends at Chelsea Teddy Bear Company. Note: The entire Hometown Holidays event runs Dec. 5-7.

Christmas parades and other holiday celebrations are on tap throughout Metro Detroit. Lake Orion and Chelsea will be hosting holiday parades. "Noel Night" takes place in the Cultural Center in midtown Detroit.
