Give The Gift Of Poo This Holiday Season With Repurposed 'PooPooPaper'

BERKLEY (WWJ) -- If you are hoping to be the number one gift giver this holiday season, you may want to try gifting some number two.

At the Our Greentopia "eco-lifestyle" boutique in Berkley, owner Katie Reiter said that the biggest conversation piece is the selection of paper found at the front of the store which is not made from wood pulp, rather horse, panda and elephant manure.

"They take the poo, they clean it, they boil it, they get the fiber out and they make paper out of it," Reiter said. "It's completely eco-friendly, it's fair-trade -- it's really cool."

The paper has the appearance of a more expensive linen stationary, is odorless and an off-white color.

"It's a great seller, it's one of our best sellers probably," Reiter said. "People love it at all ages -- kids love it, older people love it. Last year we sold a ton for stocking stuffers, you know, 'I gave you a little poo in your stocking,' that kind of idea."

Prices range from $6 to $20 for the paper that is fashioned into notepaper, photo albums and cards.

"All of the kids always come over and have to smell it," Reiter said. "We do have roses made out of poo too. We even have little Christmas ornaments too, so you can put a little poo on your tree."

Our Greentopia is located on 12 Mile between Greenfield Rd. and Coolidge Hwy.
