Skip The Political Rants, Excessive Posting On Social Media This Holiday Season

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Political rants or excessive posts. Just a few of the things to avoid on your Facebook page this holiday season. So says expert Julie VanAmeyede of Simply Social Media who asks that posters remember their manners this Christmas.

"Don't spoil surprises," says VanAmeyede. "If you know someone is going to propose or get a big gift like a trip or a new car, don't announce it on Facebook or Twitter. Even if you have your account locked down, it's really viral out there, people share things back and forth."

Avoid political and religious rants, don't post more than three or four items a day.

"Look how many times you've posted today - if you've done more than three or four you are probably being excessive, flooding your friends Facebook walls," she says.

"The best time of our holiday is being able to spend time with our family or friends ...," so VanAmeyede says, live Tweeting of family parties will come back to haunt you as well as that other person.

Another bad idea - posting holiday party pictures that embarrass family or friends. A better idea - to post a personalized greeting for your Facebook friends tailored to the holiday that they celebrate.
