Scott Boras: 'Max Is A Peyton Manning, Number One Kind Of Guy' [VIDEO]

All of the Winter Meetings were abuzz with the annual arrival of super-agent Scott Boras.

Each year, Boras comes to the meetings and is mobbed by everybody in baseball -- TV stations, writers, and even managers and general managers stand around and listen to Boras talk up his clients. It's actually a sight to be seen.

Of course you really don't learn all that much because he can't talk in specifics and even if he does, it usually seems like there still is some deciphering to do anyway. But you can't miss it. Just in case Boras decides to say something, you have to be there to capture it.

Boras was quizzed about a lot of topics, the most important one being Max Scherzer.

Ever since Jon Lester was signed by the Cubs on Tuesday, Scherzer's destination is the next question.

Boras confirmed that he has met with a couple of owners this week regarding Scherzer and that he has little idea of how long it will take for the former Cy Young pitcher to find a home.

In the past, Boras has been known to pick up the phone and call Detroit owner Mike Ilitch to see if the two can get a deal done. This time around Boras isn't letting on if he has talked to Ilitch about Scherzer.

"I don't talk about my conversations with owners" Boras said. "Mike Ilitch is very involved with his team and he's one of the owners in baseball that I think the fans in Detroit absolutely adore and he deserves every bit of respect because he's always done everything to make his team and that city what Detroit has become. Drawing 3 million fans in a great stadium in Detroit is a real credit to the Ilitch family."

The Tigers have a long track record of keeping their bigger name players, so is Boras surprised that there hasn't been more public interest from Detroit about Max?

"I guess in my office that you would gage the interest by what you customarily receive for prominent players that you've represented over the years and the interest has been great for Max" Boras replied.

The Tigers have been consistent with their message to the media -- they say they like their starters, that they're not looking for starting pitching at this time and that they've already tried to sign Scherzer last offseason. But they always leave the door open a little considering you never know what will happen.

Scherzer has said plenty of times that he's enjoyed his time in Detroit and he had hoped to be back and Boras has expressed that to the Tigers as well.

"Certainly I've had this conversation with the Tigers about his willingness to return and that's been expressed at every level" Boras said. "He's had a great experience in Detroit, he thinks Detroit can be a winning team and he's very familiar with it obviously. He's certainly left that door open."
