Detroit Titans Look To "Shock" Wichita State [BLOG]

The 11th ranked Wichita State Shockers, winners of 41 of their last 43 games, make a visit to Calihan Hall on Saturday at high noon to face the Detroit Titans. It is games like these that can make a major statement for a program and that is how Detroit is looking at this opportunity to take down one of college hoops elite programs in front of their home fans.

The Titans are 6-3 on the year and are lead by preseason Horizon League player of the year candidate Senior Juwan Howard Jr, who comes in averaging a team leading 18.7 points a game. Howard Jr is also just four points away from becoming the 39th Titan to score 1000 points in his career.

Detroit will also get two huge pieces for the first time when they host the Shockers on Saturday. The 6-9 205 Junior Youssoupha Kane from Thies, Senegal and Sophomore and former University of Detroit Jesuit High School star Chris Jenkins will be eligible for the first time.

It will also be a special day for some Titans legends on Saturday as the 2014 UDM Hall of Fame Class will be honored at halftime, including legendary former Titans coach Perry Watson.

I sat down with Titans Coach Ray McCallum to talk about the Wichita State game as well as the teams year so far as they head into one of the biggest non conference games they have played in recent memory.

You can hear the game on AM 1270 CBS Sports Radio Detroit with the pregame show starting at 11:50 AM on Saturday December 13th.
