Driver Shot Before Fatal I-94 Crash Might Have Been Involved In Road Rage Incident

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Police say a driver who died in a crash along I-94 in Detroit had been shot, and may have been involved in a road rage incident or another kind of dispute.

State police say 59-year-old Cedric Laure Horn of Roseville lost control of the car he was driving around 10:15 p.m. Monday along eastbound I-94 near French Road, on the city's east side. The car went up an embankment, struck a tree and rolled onto the freeway.

Police say Horn was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In a statement, police say an investigation revealed that it's "possible that the driver was involved in a road rage incident with one or more vehicles and may have rear-ended a vehicle prior to losing control." No description of the other vehicle is available.

Lt. Michael Shaw told The Associated Press in an email Thursday that Horn was shot but they're not sure of the sequence of events. He says cause of death is pending.

Shaw says police are seeking the public's help, especially from any witnesses, to determine if there was road rage, a domestic incident or something else. Troopers returned to the scene of the crash on Wednesday to look for additional evidence.

Horn's nephew Derrick Jackson told WJBK-TV that it's a "senseless crime as we see, it's just something that you wouldn't expect." Jackson says Horn was a father of three and a father figure to him. He described Horn as a "family man" with a "great sense of humor."

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or might have any other information is urged to contact police at 248-584-5740 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
