CBS DETROIT - Instead of settling for a standard Lamborghini Aventador, new Detroit Tigers outfielder Yoenis Cespedes splurged for a total upgrade by the Auto Firm in Miami, spending about $100,000 for the customization of his supercar.

The transformation of the Lamborghini took just 30 days, and in addition to sweeping cosmetic changes that included a paint job, wheels and interior - oh, yes, and the exhaust that spits flames - the car now has 120 more horsepower. It came stock with 700 horsepower and a top speed of 217 miles per hour.

Auto Firm owner Alex Vega said in a phone interview Friday that Cespedes, whom the Boston Red Sox traded to the Tigers this week, will be bringing the Lamborghini to his new place of business.

"He's taking it to Detroit," Vega said. "It's definitely going to be in the city of Detroit."

Vega works extensively with athletes, particularly those in Major League Baseball. His clients - as seen on the Instagram page of the Auto Firm - include Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox, Nelson Cruz of the Seattle Mariners and Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Vega said Cespedes found him through an agent who was familiar with Vega's work and recommended it.

Vega started the business 10 years ago and targeted athletes early.

"I started going to the practice fields and taking cars that I had done," Vega said. "Little by little, I started getting one player here, one player there, one player here, so when the players would go to practice or the ballpark and they'd go out and see the car, they'd be like, 'Oh my God, your car looks so amazing! Who did it?' And it became word of mouth. I hardly even travel anymore. They all come. They look for me all over the world."

Predictably, Cespedes approved of the final product.

"He was amazed," Vega said. "He was going crazy."
