Santa Claus To Hit High Winds, Rain Over Metro Detroit Tonight

DETROIT (WWJ) - Santa Claus and his reindeer sure do have their work cut out for them this Christmas Eve.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory, in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 3 a.m. Thursday for metro Detroit.

Forecasters say thunderstorms and winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are possible through the night. Winds this strong can bring down tree limbs and power lines. There's also an increased potential for power outages -- good thing Rudolph can help light the way.

"We will see that rain turn into snow later on Wednesday evening and some overnight, but it looks like Christmas Day we'll stay dry with clouds and some sun in the afternoon," said CBS 62 Meteorologist Karen Carter.

Wednesday: Rain showers this morning with numerous thunderstorms developing during the afternoon hours. High 52F. Winds E at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 90%.
Wednesday Night: Cloudy and windy with occasional rain...mainly this evening. Low near 35F. Winds WSW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 80%. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

Thursday: Cloudy skies early will become partly cloudy later in the day. Temps nearly steady in the upper 30s. Winds WSW at 15 to 25 mph.
Thursday Night: A few clouds from time to time. Low 32F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph.

Friday: Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 47F. Winds SSW at 10 to 20 mph.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy skies early will give way to occasional showers later during the night. Low 37F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40%.

Saturday: Cloudy skies with periods of light rain later in the day. High 48F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 60%.
Saturday Night: Rain diminishing to a few showers late. Low 32F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Sunday: Cloudy. Temps nearly steady in the mid 30s. Winds NNE at 5 to 10 mph.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy. Low 28F. Winds NNE at 5 to 10 mph.
