Alleged Christmas Eve Convenience Store Robber Turns Himself In

By Edward Cardenas

ST. CLAIR SHORES (CBS Detroit) - A 24-year-old Detroit man who allegedly robbed a 7-Eleven on Christmas Eve turned himself in to police.

Joseph Caffee is alleged to have entered the convenience store on Harper about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 24  and attempted to make a purchase with a credit card. It was declined and he left, but he returned a short time later and unsuccessfully attempted to make another purchase.

After his card was declined, he ordered the clerk to "give me all the money or I will start shooting,"according to a release.

While a gun was not observed, it was implied, police stated. The store clerk removed an undetermined amount of money from the cash register and Caffee fled.

Video cameras in the store were able to capture an image of Caffee, which was shared with media outlets and extensively on social media.

According to police, Caffee turned himself Dec. 27 in to the Detroit Police Sixth Precinct after seeing news reports about the robbery with photographs.

He was arraigned Dec. 29 in 40th District Court on armed robbery charges. He is being held on $75,000 bond in the Macomb County Jail. Caffee will have pre-preliminary exam on Jan. 15.
