From 'Biggest Loser' To U.S. Army, Fitness Pro Trims The Fat In Healthful Resolutions

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Federal Government says losing weight is the most popular New Year's resolution in the country. Are you ready for boot camp? Demond Johnson is the owner of "A-2 Fitness Professionals" in Ann Arbor.

Johnson helped the U.S. Army design its' weight control and fitness program and he's coached a few Michigan contestants on "The Biggest Loser."

New Year's Fitness

"I have a simple philosophy called 'find your fun factor in fitness,' he tells WWJ's Jayne Bower. "So what that means is just make it fun. Do something fun, don't make your new year's resolution based on exercise make your new year's resolution on having fun with exercise."

As far as diet? Johnson says sugar and salt are the biggest enemies.

"A diet you may do for a month, gets results and then say 'I've made it' then you go back to something. If you base it off of good nutrition - that's something you will do for life."

Johnson says those Biggest Loser contestants work out six hours a day. But he says even 20 or 30 minutes is a great start.

"I won't just come into a gym and say 'I've got to get on a tread mill again, or I've got to lift a 100 pounds," he says. "I'll do things to keep me moving and keep it compound, complex but cardio driven."

The first step: movement is the key. Once you take the first step - everything else falls in place like clockwork.
