Uber Expects Busiest Night Ever

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit)  - Revelers celebrating New Years Eve are expected to make the evening Uber's busiest night ever.

Uber, the popular on-demand car service, expects to deliver more than 2 million rides in cities it serves over the next 24 hours.

With the large volume of rides expected, Uber said in a blog post that it will use surge pricing to get "enough cars on the road" and ensure their customers "always have a reliable ride."

On New Year's Eve Uber expects demand to increase between 8-10 p.m. as people head out for the evening, with the highest demand and fares between 12:30-2:30 a.m. Jan. 1.

Uber recommends riders request a ride right when the ball drops at midnight or wait until later for prices to return to normal. Riders can also split their fares to reduce the cost of the ride home.

With the increase in fares, customers will be notified in advance and asked to confirm increased rates on the app.

In addition to getting a ride home, Uber customers can enter the promo code MADDNYE between 6 p.m. Dec. 31 and 6 a.m. Jan. 1 to donate $1 to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
