Rivalry Strengthens As Detroit Titans Take On Oakland Grizzlies

It's a burgeoning rivalry in the Metro Detroit area and the Horizon league that's hot enough to melt any ice in this frigid weather. Ever since the Oakland Golden Grizzlies left the Summit league and became a member of the Horizon league last season, this rivalry has gained more and more steam.

Both games last year were played at a fever pitch with Detroit holding a 17 point lead before giving up the lead in the final minuets in a Oakland victory before almost 8,000 at Calihan Hall. Then at the O-Rena in Rochester, it took overtime to settle it in a game that had a little bit of everything, with the Grizzlies hanging on for the 83-82 win.

Now the rivalry gets it's 2015 curtain call this Saturday afternoon at Calihan Hall. I sat down with Titans head coach Ray McCallum on game day to talk about what this game and the rivalry means to University of Detroit Mercy faithful and its basketball team.

You can hear the game at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, January 10 on www.971theticket.com.
