Weekend Outlook: Deep Freeze Lingers, More Snow Coming

DETROIT (WWJ) - Metro Detroit is in the midst of a deep freeze, and it doesn't appear to be ending any time soon.

"We have very low temperatures for your Saturday," CBS 62 Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus. "We only top out around 10, 11, 12 degrees later today in metro Detroit with a mix of sun and clouds."

A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect until 12 p.m. Saturday for Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

Wind chills of 10 to 20 below zero are expected through the morning, posing an increased risk of frostbite and hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors, be sure to cover as much skin surface as possible.

As we move into Sunday, temperatures will feel slightly warmer, with a high around 28 degrees.

"A system is coming at us from the southwest that later on Sunday could bring some snow into Monday morning, perhaps a couple of inches," Madaus said.

Here's the local forecast from the CBS Detroit weather team:

Saturday: Sunshine and clouds mixed. A few flurries or snow showers possible. High 11F; Low 0F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy and not as cold; some afternoon snow continuing overnight, accumulating 1-3 inches. High 28F; Low 7F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph

Monday: Cloudy skies early, then partly cloudy in the afternoon. High 25F; Low 23F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy skies. High 17F; Low 8F. Winds ENE at 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: Some clouds in the morning will give way to mainly sunny skies for the afternoon. High 19F; Low 2F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.
