Michigan State Police Expected To Move From Headquarters In Downtown Lansing

LANSING (WWJ) - Five and out. Moves are being made by Michigan State Police to leave their five-year old headquarters in downtown Lansing and move into a different state complex.

WWJ's Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick says the state is consolidating all their services into the State Secondary Complex which is in nearby Eaton County.

"Some lawmakers are asking questions about the motivation for the move says Skubick, and until they get the answer probably won't be signing off on the venture. Senator Rick Jones, who was in favor of killing this project orginally, says 'it's long overdue.'

Skubick says some of the internal complaints have ranged from paying a monthly parking fee to paying non-resident income tax to the city of Lansing.

The Michigan Department of Community Health would move into the MSP's current headquarters, where 400 state employees currently work. The move would ultimately save the state $30 million.
